## Executive Summary
The 2026 College Football Playoff race enters a volatile phase as Week 8 results eliminate several early season contenders from bracket contention.

## Intelligence Brief
According to a report from Sports Illustrated, the current state of the bracket projections is characterized by a level of instability described as chaos. The latest updates indicate that the path to the playoffs is narrowing for several programs that were previously viewed as strong candidates during the early stages of the season. Coverage from Sports Illustrated focuses heavily on the 'Playoff Eliminator' aspect of the current standings.

The reporting emphasizes that teams which were considered early season contenders have now been officially cut from the realistic projection of the final bracket. This shift suggests a redistribution of power among the remaining top teams as the regular season progresses toward its conclusion. To understand why this matters now, one must look at the timing of the Week 8 results.

This point in the season serves as a critical filtering mechanism where the gap between elite contenders and the rest of the field becomes permanent. The early exit of several contenders has left the bracket open to new movements and potential upsets. Since Sports Illustrated has already identified which early contenders are cut, attention shifts to the remaining teams fighting for those final spots.
