## Executive Summary
A driver has avoided prison after a road rage attack in Cowgate left a cyclist with a fractured skull and a brain injury.

## Intelligence Brief
A man has been issued a supervision order after a violent road rage incident that resulted in a cyclist suffering a fractured skull and a brain injury. The attack took place in the Cowgate area, where the driver threw the cyclist to the ground. Following the legal proceedings, the driver was spared a jail sentence for his actions during the clash. The court has now imposed a supervision order rather than incarceration for the individual responsible for the injuries. Coverage of the sentencing has been reported by the BBC, the Daily Record, STV News, and Edinburgh News.

The BBC explicitly details the nature of the injury as a fractured skull, while the Daily Record and STV News emphasize that the driver avoided jail despite the severity of the victim's brain injury. Edinburgh News provides specific geographic context, noting that the road rage clash occurred in Cowgate and that the driver was tagged in relation to throwing the cyclist to the ground. This incident highlights a violent encounter between a motorist and a cyclist, culminating in significant physical trauma for the victim. The context provided across these reports underscores the transition from the initial incident to the sentencing phase, where the legal outcome shifted from the possibility of imprisonment to a supervision order. The severity of the injury, categorized as a brain injury and skull fracture, serves as the primary focal point for the reporting across all four news outlets.

Future developments will center on the terms of the supervision order granted to the driver. While the current coverage confirms the driver has avoided jail, the specific requirements of the supervision order are not detailed. Observers will likely monitor how the court manages the driver's behavior following this violent incident in Cowgate and whether any further legal motions arise from the brain injury sustained by the cyclist.
