## Executive Summary
NASA has officially ended the Swift space telescope mission after a failed rescue attempt, leaving the 2004 spacecraft to head for atmospheric reentry.

## Intelligence Brief
NASA has announced the formal termination of the Swift space telescope mission following a rescue attempt that failed to save the spacecraft. According to reporting from Space and NASA Science, the agency has ceased all science operations for the observatory. The telescope, which has been operational since 2004, is now on a trajectory that will lead to its eventual crashing into Earth. The mission is now transitioning from active scientific discovery to the final phase of its operational life as it prepares for a fiery reentry into the atmosphere. Coverage of the event is widespread across multiple science and news outlets. The Register specifically highlights that the 2004 spacecraft is now headed for a fiery reentry.

Meanwhile, India Today emphasizes that the telescope has ended its science operations and is now prepping for the descent toward Earth. NDTV has characterized the end of the mission as the wrapping up of a historic period of exploration. The official NASA Science government portal has confirmed that the mission is ending specifically ahead of this projected re-entry event. To understand the current situation, it is necessary to note that the Swift space telescope has been a part of NASA's orbital fleet since its launch in 2004. The spacecraft is described by NDTV as having completed a historic mission, implying a long period of service in monitoring the cosmos. The sudden end of its operations follows a rescue attempt that Space reports was unsuccessful.

This failure has left the agency with no further options for maintaining the telescope's position or function in space, necessitating the current plan for atmospheric disposal. Observers are now watching for the final descent of the hardware. Based on the reports from The Register and India Today, the primary focus is now the physical reentry process and the resulting crash into Earth. Because science operations have officially concluded, there are no further data collection goals for the mission. Future updates will likely center on the timing and location of the reentry as the 2004 spacecraft meets its end. Coverage does not yet specify the exact date or coordinates of the impact, only that the process of reentry is the inevitable next step.
