## Intelligence Brief
Pope Leo has issued a definitive statement during an interfaith peace meeting in Assisi, asserting that there is no such thing as a holy war. In a message directed toward religious leaders, the Pope stated explicitly that war can never be waged in the name of God. The Pope called for participants to become unarmed instruments of God's peace, positioning the religious community as a force for non-violence in a world marked by instability. America Magazine emphasized the theological rejection of the term 'holy war,' highlighting the Pope's specific claim that divine justification cannot be used to conduct warfare. Simultaneously, Vatican News focused on the spiritual appeal for peace, reporting the Pope's desire for religious leaders to operate as unarmed instruments in their pursuit of global harmony.

Both outlets underscore the high-profile nature of the Assisi Peace Meeting as the venue for these declarations. To understand the significance of this moment, readers must note the setting of the Assisi Peace Meeting, a gathering designed to bring together leaders from various faith traditions. By stating that war cannot be waged in the name of God, Pope Leo is addressing a long-standing tension regarding the use of religious rhetoric to justify military action. This message serves as a formal directive to the Catholic Church and other interfaith partners to decouple faith from combat. The emphasis on being 'unarmed' suggests a specific push toward pacifism and diplomatic resolution over armed struggle.

Future developments to watch involve the responses from the various religious leaders attending the meeting in Assisi. While the Pope has set a clear theological boundary against the notion of holy war, the coverage does not yet specify how other faith leaders will incorporate this stance into their own doctrines or actions. Observers will likely look for subsequent joint declarations or policy shifts resulting from this interfaith dialogue. The focus remains on whether the call to be unarmed instruments of peace leads to concrete collaborative efforts among the attending religious delegations.
