## Executive Summary
Microsoft is updating Windows 11 with a customizable right-click menu, a built-in internet speed test, and new Quick Settings phone controls.

## Intelligence Brief
Microsoft has introduced several functional updates to Windows 11 aimed at enhancing user customization and system utility. According to ZDNET, the operating system now features a customizable right-click menu, a change described by the outlet as a much-needed modification to the user interface. In addition to interface changes, ZDNET and TechRepublic both report that Windows 11 has implemented a built-in internet speed test tool. This new system utility allows users to measure their connection speeds directly within the operating system, effectively skipping the need to open a web browser to access third-party testing sites. Coverage from Neowin emphasizes recent developments within Windows 11 Insider builds.

These specific builds have introduced new options for the Start menu and integrated phone controls into the Quick Settings menu. This indicates a strategic move toward tighter integration between the desktop environment and mobile device management. The reporting from Neowin, TechRepublic, and ZDNET collectively highlights a trend of integrating tools that were previously external or rigid into the core Windows 11 experience, focusing on efficiency and user personalization. The context for these updates centers on the ongoing evolution of the Windows 11 user experience. The right-click menu has been a point of contention for users, making the customizable options mentioned by ZDNET a significant pivot in design philosophy.

Similarly, the shift toward a built-in speed test represents a move toward consolidating system diagnostics. By removing the browser requirement for network testing, as noted by TechRepublic, Microsoft is reducing the friction associated with basic system troubleshooting and connectivity verification for the average user. Looking ahead, the trajectory of these updates suggests further refinement of the Windows 11 interface and system tools. Based on the reports from Neowin, the rollout of Quick Settings phone controls and Start menu options via Insider builds suggests these features may eventually move to a broader public release. Observers will be monitoring how the customizable right-click menu is received by the general user base and whether additional system diagnostics will follow the precedent set by the new internet speed test tool reported by ZDNET and TechRepublic.
