## Executive Summary
Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy takes over as Head of Ceremonies and Content for the LA28 Olympic Games, replacing Peter Rice.

## Intelligence Brief
Kathleen Kennedy has been appointed as the Head of Ceremonies and Content for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, Kennedy replaces Peter Rice in this leadership capacity. The move brings a high-profile film executive into the fold of the LA28 organization to manage the creative direction of the event. This transition comes after Kennedy's exit from her role associated with the Star Wars franchise, as noted by Variety. She will be responsible for the production and content strategy of the upcoming Games in California. Multiple industry and local outlets are reporting on this leadership shift.

The Hollywood Reporter provided the exclusive details of the appointment, while Variety highlighted Kennedy's departure from Star Wars as a precursor to this role. Deadline reports that while Kennedy is taking over the primary spot for ceremonies, Peter Rice, described as a Netflix newbie, will still serve as an executive producer for the opening and closing ceremonies. Additionally, the Los Angeles Times and Yahoo Sports have confirmed Kennedy's role in bringing Hollywood-style production to the LA28 Games, and A.V. Club notes she is now running the ceremonies. This appointment is significant because it leverages the specific production expertise of the Los Angeles entertainment industry for a global sporting event. The coverage emphasizes Kennedy's background as a prominent executive and producer, particularly her history with the Star Wars series, suggesting a shift toward high-scale cinematic production for the Olympic experience.

The transition from Peter Rice to Kathleen Kennedy represents a change in the top creative leadership for the content and ceremonial aspects of the games, though Rice retains a specific executive producer credit for the primary events. Future developments will center on the specific creative visions Kennedy implements for the opening and closing ceremonies. Based on the current reports, the primary focus remains on the collaboration between Kennedy and Rice, as they will both be involved in the executive production of the opener and closer. Coverage does not yet specify the exact start date of her tenure or the specific content goals for the 2028 Games, but the industry is watching how her Hollywood experience translates to the Olympic stage.
