Lamar Odom, girlfriend join OnlyFans in NBA first

NBA alumnus Lamar Odom has officially launched an OnlyFans account, marking a significant first for a former player of the National Basketball Association. According to reports from the New York Post, Odom did not join the platform alone, as he is launching the account alongside his girlfriend. This move represents a departure from traditional athlete branding and monetization strategies. In accompanying announcements, Odom has indicated that the platform will allow subscribers to get to know the real version of himself, framing the move as an extension of his personality and public image. Coverage of the announcement has been widespread across several entertainment and news outlets. TMZ emphasizes the historic nature of the move, explicitly stating that Odom has become the first NBA star to join the subscription-based service.

News highlights Odom's tendency to tease his audience, noting that he has specifically mentioned what users will or will not see on his profile. Page Six focuses on Odom's personal motivations for the launch, quoting his desire for fans to see the real him, while Yahoo describes the announcement as a shock to fans following what it characterizes as a jaw-dropping career move. The context for this development is rooted in Odom's public identity as an open book, a sentiment he reiterated during the launch according to TMZ. His history as a high-profile athlete and his past relationship with Khloe Kardashian, mentioned by E! News, provide a backdrop of long-term public scrutiny. By joining OnlyFans, Odom is leveraging his existing celebrity status to enter a new medium of direct-to-consumer content.

This shift reflects a broader trend of public figures utilizing subscription platforms to control their own narratives and generate independent revenue streams outside of traditional sports or media contracts. Observers will now be watching to see how the account is managed and what specific content Odom provides to his subscribers. Given the teases reported by E! News regarding the boundaries of what will be visible, the nature of the content remains a primary point of interest. Coverage does not yet specify the pricing of the subscription or the specific types of media Odom and his girlfriend intend to post. The industry will likely monitor if other former NBA stars follow this precedent, as Odom has established the initial footprint for professional basketball players on the platform.
