## Executive Summary
Mahjong is evolving from a traditional pastime into a modern social staple, particularly among women at college football tailgates.

## Intelligence Brief
A new social trend is emerging across the United States as mahjong becomes a preferred activity for women during college football tailgates. According to reporting from Fox News, the tile-based game is effectively taking over the pre-game festivities associated with collegiate sports. This shift indicates a change in traditional tailgating culture, where mahjong is being integrated into the social rituals that precede football matches. The game is serving as a focal point for gathering and interaction within these high-energy sporting environments. Coverage of this trend extends beyond the football stadium to include broader commercial and community impacts.

Forbes reports that mahjong is currently having a significant moment in popular culture, and as a result, hotels are now cashing in on the game's rising popularity. Simultaneously, VPM has highlighted how players in Atlanta are utilizing the game to build community one tile at a time. These reports collectively suggest that the game is transitioning from a niche hobby into a mainstream social tool used for both commercial profit and the creation of local social networks. Contextual reporting from Deseret News adds a personal dimension to this trend, discussing the concept of getting older and becoming braver when trying new things. This suggests that the rise of mahjong may be linked to a broader social shift where individuals are seeking out new intellectual and social challenges later in life.

The intersection of these reports shows that while the game is appearing in sports settings and luxury hotels, it is also functioning as a vehicle for personal growth and bravery for those stepping outside their usual comfort zones to learn the rules of the game. Future developments to watch include how hotels will continue to monetize the mahjong trend and whether the game's presence at college football tailgates will expand to other sporting events. While Fox News focused on the specific demographic of women in football culture, the reports from VPM and Forbes indicate a wide-reaching interest that spans different urban environments and industries. Observers will likely monitor if the community-building aspects seen in Atlanta become a standardized outcome of the game's adoption in other cities across the country.
