## Executive Summary
Apple is implementing a strict 18-and-over age requirement for dating applications and AI romance chatbots on its platform.

## Intelligence Brief
Apple has announced new restrictions targeting dating applications and AI companions, mandating that these services be limited to users who are 18 years of age or older. According to reports from TechCrunch and The Verge, this policy specifically encompasses both traditional dating apps and romanceable chatbots. The move signals a shift in how the company manages access to software designed for romantic interactions and artificial intelligence companions. These changes are being implemented to ensure that younger users are restricted from accessing platforms designed for adult romantic engagement. Coverage from several major technology outlets, including Engadget and MacRumors, emphasizes that Apple will now mandate these age requirements for developers.

MacRumors specifically notes that the company is requiring developers to provide disclosures regarding dating features and the sharing of location data within their apps. This focus on transparency regarding location sharing suggests a broader push for user privacy and safety within the romantic app ecosystem. The Verge and TechCrunch both highlight that the restrictions apply to both human-to-human dating services and the growing category of AI companions. This significant revenue stream underscores why Apple is intervening in the management of these specific app categories now. The rise of AI-driven companionship has created a new niche in the app store that requires updated regulatory oversight to prevent minors from engaging with AI designed for romantic purposes, blending traditional dating app concerns with new challenges posed by generative AI.

Looking forward, developers must now comply with Apple's mandates regarding age verification and feature disclosure. Based on the coverage, the primary points of focus for the industry will be the implementation of these 18+ floors and the mandatory disclosure of location sharing capabilities. Because Apple is now requiring these disclosures, the technical ways developers track and report user locations for dating purposes will be under increased scrutiny. Further developments will likely center on how these age requirements are enforced across the various AI and dating platforms currently active on the App Store.
