## Executive Summary
Guild Wars is receiving its first major expansion and paid DLC in nearly two decades with the upcoming release of Afterlife.

## Intelligence Brief
The original Guild Wars is set to receive its first major gameplay update and new expansion in almost 20 years. This update, titled Afterlife, is being released as paid DLC and is scheduled to launch on January 13. According to an announcement from Guild Wars 2, prepurchases for the Afterlife content are currently available to players. This development marks a significant return to the original title's active development cycle after a prolonged period of stagnation regarding major feature additions. Coverage from several gaming and news outlets highlights the specific nature of this update.

Massively Overpowered reports that the update, referred to as Guild Wars Reforged, will introduce a roguelike dungeon mode as part of the January 13 Afterlife DLC. GameSpot and Eurogamer.net have both emphasized that this represents the first new expansion for the game in nearly two decades. Additionally, Seoul Economic Daily has focused on the commercial aspect of the release, noting that this is the first paid DLC for the title in 20 years. To understand the significance of this event, it is necessary to note that the game has operated without a major expansion of this scale for almost two decades. The introduction of a roguelike dungeon mode suggests a shift in gameplay mechanics for the Reforged version of the game.

Future developments to monitor include the official launch on January 13 and the public reception of the roguelike dungeon mode. Since prepurchases are already active, the community will be watching for further details regarding the full scope of the Afterlife DLC. Coverage does not yet specify the pricing for the paid content or the exact technical requirements for the Reforged update, but the January release date remains the primary milestone for the project.
